Be safe, or in control.
True security doesn't come from avoiding risk. It comes from controlling your own destiny.
Early in my career, I played it safe, turning down opportunities that seemed uncertain and sticking with the familiar path. I thought security meant avoiding potential failure.
What I've learned through experience is that real security comes from building the resilience to navigate challenges on my own terms. The moments I've felt most secure weren't when risks disappeared, but when I developed the confidence to face them head-on.
Some of my biggest professional breakthroughs happened when I stepped beyond my comfort zone. Those calculated risks, launching that passion project, having that difficult conversation, pursuing that ambitious goal, gave me agency over my future in ways that playing it safe never could.
Now I ask myself: "Am I avoiding this because it's truly dangerous, or because it's uncomfortable?" The difference has transformed my approach to both life and leadership.
What risks are you avoiding that might actually lead to greater control over your destiny?
